Hi.

Title explains it all really..

Basically whats the best approach? Minimum or Maximum buy-ins?

I understand you can get rewarded bigger obviously the higher the amount of money you take in if you go all-in but can obviously be turned around into a big loss.

I'd like your opinions on this please.

The way I see it, if you buy-in small you're protecting losses but in exchange you're giving up profits. So, it depends on what is most important to you.

As long as your playing within your bankroll, losing a max buy-in isn't going to kill you and the more chips you have at the table, the more potential profit there is to be made from your winning hands.

Hi Doodle

I play a lot of live cash and a lot online.

profit loss, is one consideration, bankroll is another, the type of player you are also counts for a buy in.

But what never changes about your buy in is this.....The size of the blinds.

What shouldnt change about your game is the way you play, position, patience, reading the plays and players..

I was asked this same question just last week during a live game in which I bought in with the maximum (like I always do). My reply was, I can lay down big hands, I can lay down AK AQ on flops that I dont hit, I can lay down hands where I know people hits rags after seeing the flop after being priced through pot odds.

So, I will ask you to ask yourself this question, am I disciplined? If the answer is yes and you can lay down the big ones and avoid the sucker flop odds bet, then you should buy in for the max.

If the answer is no, protect your bankroll, buy in minimum and hope you get lucky early.

Steve

I agree that your playing style does need to be added as a factor for your buy-in and buying in low would help preserve your bankroll but you can also just buy-in the max at a lower stake to stay within your bankroll rather than playing a higher stake with a min. buy-in.

Either way, you'll still have the same potential profit at either stake since you'll have the same amount of money on the table though.
