| I was wondering if there are any Canadians that can discuss the Live poker situation in Canada. I Live in Ontario, and other that a few B&M casinos down south, such as Toronto, there is nothing exciting about the live scene here, in Ontario. Actually the WPT was cancelled in Canada this year. Does anyone within this forum know more about this situation, and will WPT come back to Canada. | |

| hey Vinny im not Canadian but i have found an article on why the WPT North American tourney in Canada was canceled i guess they felt the money for the WPT North American in Canada can be used for better things i guess but i have Attach the article if you would love to see Wat i found.
North American Poker Championship in Canada at Fallsview Casino Canceled After three successful years of hosting the North American Poker Championships in Canada, Fallsview Casino resort has decided NOT to continue with the World Poker Tour event, the North American Poker Championship this year. Falsview Casino This is a sad day for Canadian Poker, as the North American Poker Championship was by far the largest and most prestigious event to take place in Canada. In its inaugural year, the Fallsview Casino saw 497 entrants for a total prize pool of 4.8 million dollars. Soren Turkewitsch of Oshawa Ontario won the first ever event, which had 5 of the 6 final table players Canadians. The only non-Canadian to make the final table was John Juanda, who finished the tournament in fifth place. The 2007 North American Poker Championship saw an even larger player pool, with 504 players entering the tournament. Scott Clemetns of Mount Vernon, WA ended up the winner, taking home just over 1.3 million dollars. This last October, the North American Poker Championship again saw a Canadian winning, with Glen Witmer of Waterloo Ontario taking home the over 1.2 million dollar first prize. In fact, Again 5 of the last 6 players at the final table were Canadians. Glen took down Gavin Smith, a well recognized Canadian pro from Guelph Ontario (Now living in Las Vegas) for the title. We first learned about the cancellation of this year's North American Poker Championship from Robet Kipp, the Casino Shift Manager, and WPT Tournament director for Fallsview Casino Resort. He simply stated: The WPT event at Fallsview Casino will not be offered this year, (2009). Please remove any advertising for this event from your website. We returned his message with an inquiry, and were contacted by Kevin Harding, the Manager of communications of Fallsview Casino. He stated: After three very exciting seasons as the host of the WPT's North American Poker Championship, Fallsview Casino Resort has decided to end its involvement with the event.
A tournament of this size represents a significant marketing expense, including licensing fees, hotel rooms, convention space, labour, and so on. Given the current economic conditions, we felt those resources could be used more effectively to bolster other aspects of our marketing programs for the coming year.It looks like this is more then just a one year hiatus from the event, but a split from the WPT indefinitely. We will have to wait and see if any other poker rooms (I'm talking to you, River Rock Casino Resort) can step up and take the Fallsview Casino's place. We will keep our ear to the ground, and let everyone know of any updates on the World Poker Tour coming back to Canada. We are in contacts with the World Poker Tour for more information regarding this unfortunate event.

| Well, I'm not from Canada either but I do follow poker quite a bit.
As far as the WPT, I was looking at next seasons schedule and it seems to be focusing more on the European market. I'm not sure if this has something to do with Party Gaming "Party Poker" buying them out last year but it might. Its also understandable why Fallsview Casino would pull out if they think that there marketing budget would be better used elsewhere.
As far as b&m casinos in the Ontario area all I could find is the same list of 9 casinos with most of them having only 8-10 tables in there poker rooms and the highest said 15. Wish I could help you out more with that but hopefully someone who can will come along soon. | |
